Journal of Bioressources Valorization JBV, edited by the Tunisian Association of Bioresources Valorization ATVAB publishes original articles, review articles, thesis summaries, book reviews and information of interest to members of the ATVAB. The subjects must have a direct connection with the Valorization of Bioresources and Integrative Biology.

Instructions to Authors

Submission of an article to JBV implies that the article is original and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Submission also implies that all the authors have approved the paper for release in JBV and are in agreement with its content.

Types of contribution

  1. Original research papers (Regular papers)
  2. Review articles
  3. JBV notes
  4. JShort notes
  5. Summaries of Ph.D.
  6. Book reviews
  1. Original research papers : Should report only original results. They are limited to 10 printed pages (40 000 characters). The publication of larger articles is subjected to the Editor's agreement.
  2. Review articles : They should be invited or agreed by the Editor. They should be concise (up to 15 printed pages, i.e., 60 000 characters). Prospective authors are asked to send an extended abstract (two pages maximum) of their paper to the Editor by email (JBV@biolival.com). The abstract should outline the review interest, its main points and objectives.
  3. JBV notes : Short communications, which do not occupy more than four printed pages (16 000 characters). The reference part does not exceed 10 references.
  4. Short notes : these are short notes not exceeding two printed pages (or 8 000 characters) and must include a brief description of the bioresource.
  5. Summaries of Ph.D. thesis: They will be published only when a copy of the thesis is provided to the Editor. Length: 4 000 to 8 000 characters.
  6. Book reviews : They will be published only when a copy of the book is provided to the Editor. Length: 4 000 to 8 000 characters.

Submission of manuscripts

The manuscripts are to be submitted in French or English. Authors whose native language is not English are strongly advised to have their manuscripts checked by a native English-speaking colleague prior to submission to JBV.

Manuscripts must be sent by email to the Editorial team: JBV@biolival.com

Preparation of manuscripts

Manuscripts should be prepared with numbered pages, with 1.5 spacing throughout and 3 cm right and left margins.

They should be organized in the following order:

Page 1 :

  1. Title: Brief, clear and referring to the content of the article ; common name of species should be avoided.
  2. Name(s) of author(s) followed by (1) (2)... for the address.
  3. Add a short title limited to 6 words.
  4. Complete postal address(es) of affiliations preceded by (1) (2)... and email for every authors; Indicate name and email of the author to which the proofs should to be sent.

Indicate the number of characters (spaces included) of the article (including title, abstracts, references and legends).

Page 2 :

  1. Abstract and title in English; should be clear, descriptive. An abstract will have to report the context and purposes of the study, material and main methods used, significant results and a short conclusion. No longer than 2 000 to 2 500 characters.
  2. Abstract and title in French. an extended English summary is required (2 000 to 2 500 characters). This summary will have to report the context and purposes of the study, material and main methods used significant results and a short conclusion.
  3. Key words (6 items max.).

Next pages: :

  1. Introduction: Should indicate the precise purposes of the study.
  2. Material studied area descriptions, methods and techniques.
  3. Results.
  4. Discussion: Should be separated from the results.
  5. Acknowledgements and any additional information concerning research grants, etc.
  6. References.
  7. Footnotes: Use them only where they are absolutely necessary. Do not encode them. Number them in the text and place them at the end of the text, after the reference list.
  8. Figure and table legends: Should be provided on a separate sheet.

All species should be identified by their Latin name in italic, followed by their authors and date when first cited in the article.

The editorial team reserves the privilege of returning to the author, for revision, accepted manuscripts and illustrations, which are not prepared according to this guide.

References

All references quoted in the text must be found in the reference list at the end of the article. The manuscript should be carefully checked to ensure that the spelling of author's names and dates are exactly the same in the text as in the reference list.

In the text, do conform to the following examples: If only one author, name of the author and date as Hammami (2013), If one author with many references, name of the first author and dates as indicated (Richard, 2003a, 2003b, 2006). If 2 authors for one reference indicate them and the date (Hopson and Hopson, 1965). If 2 authors or more with one citation each or more, put the name of authors and dates in chronological order (Meunier, 1997 ; Boivin et al., 1998). The references must follow a chronological order. When there is more than two authors, the name of the first author should be used followed by 'et al.' in italic.

The references should be listed as follows:

  1. For periodicals :

The titles of the periodicals must be abbreviated according to the international rules of abbreviations.

The publications 'in press' are accepted in the reference list but not the articles 'submitted for publication' or 'in preparation'; they should not be cited in the reference list but mentioned in the text as 'unpublished data'.

In the case of publications in non-Latin alphabets, the titles must be translated and a notation such as '(in Russian)' should be added.

Illustrations

Dans le texte :

Les tableaux doivent être tous cités dans le texte, dans un ordre croissant et en chiffres romains : tableau I ; (Tab. I) ; (Tabs I, II). Ils doivent être fournis, chacun sur une feuille séparée (21 x 29,7 cm), à la fin du manuscrit (ne jamais les inclure dans le texte).

Les figures doivent être toutes citées dans le texte, dans un ordre croissant et en chiffres arabes : "figure 1" ; (Fig. 1) (Fig 1, 2). Elles doivent être fournies, chacune sur une feuille séparée (21 x 2,7 cm), à la fin du manuscrit.

Tableaux :
Les tableaux doivent être préparés à l'aide du logiciel "Excel" (xls). Les auteurs doivent tenir compte du format de la revue et les trop grands tableaux sont à éviter.

Figures :
Pour les dessins au trait et les photos, l'échelle sera indiquée sur chaque figure par une barre. Les indications de grandissement (x 1000) sont prohibées.

Les figures originales devront être fournies imprimées, de très bonne qualité et au format définitif souhaité. Trois largeurs d'illustrations sont permises : 8,5 cm, 12 cm et 17,5 cm ; la hauteur étant de 24,0 cm. Attention aux possibles réductions lors de la préparation définitive des figures. Pour les indications sur les figures, il faut utiliser la police de caractères Times pour une taille finale égale à Times 9.

Chaque figure doit également être fournie sur support informatique (puce, Zip, CD) en respectant les formats suivants (1 figure par fichier portant le nom de l'auteur et le numéro de la figure) :
Pour les graphiques, on peut les intégrer dans Excel ou Word. (.doc ou .xls).

Pour les photos couleur, N&B, au trait, fournir des fichiers au format : JPEG, PSD (Photoshop), EPS (Photoshop, Illustrator), scannées au minimum en 300 dpi (format final).

Attention ! Ne pas envoyer de figures en GIF, BMP, PICT, WPG ; ne pas envoyer de fichiers à trop faible résolution ; ne pas envoyer de graphiques de taille disproportionnée par rapport au contenu.

Copyright

  1. An author, when considering reproducing an illustration or table from a book or journal article, should make sure that he is not infringing a copyright.
  2. An author should obtain permission from the holder of the copyright if he wishes to make substantial extracts or to reproduce tables, plates or other illustrations. If the copyright-holder is not the author of the quoted or reproduced material, it is recommended that the permission of the author should be sought.
  3. Material in unpublished letters and manuscripts is also protected and must not be published unless permission has been obtained.
  4. A suitable acknowledgement of any borrowed material must always be made.

Proofs

One set of proofs will be sent to the corresponding author indicated on the title page of the manuscript. Only typesetter's errors may be corrected. The editorial team will do its best to get your article corrected and published as quickly as possible.

Offprints

A pdf file will be supplied free of charge to the corresponding author.

Additional offprints can be ordered on an offprint order form, which is included with the proofs.

Terms of payment

The article will appear in the Journal only after the payment of a contribution to the costs of printing that is 70 Tunisian Dinars or 35 euros.

Payment must be made at the account of the Tunisian Association of Bioressources Valorization (ATVAB).
